Mindful Monday: We Need More Rubber Ducks

Have you ever given it any thought? What purpose does a rubber duck really serve?

Well, if you ask me (and I know you didn't), rubber ducks are equally as important to the way the world functions as the air we breathe. We need them!

Hear me out.

Rubber ducks make me smile. They are silly, whimsical, and just plain fun. We need more fun in our lives. We need it just as much as we need air.

However, who has time for whimsy? Who will take you seriously as a working professional if you are silly? Fun is for children. But are our children even having as much fun these days? Fun doesn't feel as present as it once did, and that is terribly disheartening.

Life is hard. The last 12+ months have been exceptionally hard. Waking up each day with the purpose to change lives isn't for the faint of heart. Which is all the more reason we need more rubber ducks!

We need more fun! We need more laughter! We need to infuse life into our students and into our classrooms.

I know there is never enough time to get it all done. I understand that there is curriculum to cover and checklists that need checking. But when was the last time you did something fun? When was the last time you heard your students laugh? You can cover the curriculum and still have fun. You can take care of business and add a little whimsy to your day. It's not impossible. It's just about being intentional.

Wishing you a boat load of rubber ducks as we finish the year strong!
