Mindful Monday: Be the Light

When things are hard, it's easy to look externally to find fault and point blame as to why things are bad or not going your way.

The thing is, most of what we blame or find fault with we have absolutely no control over. And while easier said than done and somewhat simplistic, I have found the statement, "don't worry about things you can't control," incredibly freeing.

Often we waste too much of our time and energy on things we simply cannot control. So today, I come to you imploring you to focus on the light. Focus on the good. And focus on what you can control.

Amanda Gorman wrote a poem titled, The Hill We Climb. And while the message of her poem is about democracy, I can't help but think that her poem has an even broader message. She ends her poem with the line, "For there is always light. If only we're brave enough to see it. If only we're brave enough to be it."

When times are hard, we must choose to look for the light. When times are difficult, we must choose to focus on the good. When times are dark, we can choose to be our own light and even a light for others.

As we inch closer to ending another calendar year, I challenge you to focus on what you can control - the light you emanate
